Bulgaria Rejects Gambling Tax Hike and Ad Ban Proposals

The Bulgarian government has declined opposition proposals to raise gambling taxes and restrict advertising in densely populated areas. Officials confirmed the decision while initiating a review of the national Gambling Act.

Deputy Financial Minister Lyudmila Petkova stated that the administration will prioritize unlicensed gambling operations during the legislative assessment. The opposition's draft measures, which featured increased operator levies and a broad advertising restriction in high-density districts, were formally declined.

Regulatory Assessment

The current review of the Gambling Act targets market compliance and licensing procedures. Authorities intend to examine existing frameworks to strengthen oversight of gambling providers.

The regulatory update follows ongoing efforts to standardize industry practices across the country. Officials have previously identified unregistered operators as a primary concern for the domestic market.
