Tax Relief Nebraska has submitted two ballot initiatives to the Secretary of State’s Office to legalize online sports betting in the state. The group delivered petitions containing nearly 350,000 signatures, surpassing the required thresholds for both measures.
The campaign filed the documents nearly a week before the deadline. The petition seeking a constitutional amendment to legalize online wagering received 201,000 signatures, exceeding the 126,000 requirement. The second petition, which proposes a regulatory framework, gathered 146,000 signatures against a target of 88,000.
Current Betting Landscape
Nebraska currently restricts sports wagering to licensed racetrack casinos where bettors must be present in person. The state recently expanded its regulatory tools regarding player protection.
In January, the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission announced the state’s entry into the National Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program. This system allows individuals to block their access to casinos and pari-mutuel wagering via an online application.
